The assembly of delegates of IG Metall Berlin passes the motion of IG Metall-Youth: “Against conscription and militarization!”

“As IG Metall Berlin, we feel committed to a legacy of peace policy and are committed to “peace, disarmament and international understanding” (statutes of IG Metall). We are therefore opposed to the expansion of the Bundeswehr, a new arms spiral and especially the reintroduction of compulsory military service, which is often called for in the context of current wars. We expressly reject a return to compulsory military service or “necessity military service” (…) In our opinion, sustainable and peace-promoting objectives must always be a priority in the economy and society. It would then be not narratives of militarization and oversized corporations that would benefit from this, but rather the social security of the general public. As a union, we stand in solidarity with all colleagues affected by the consequences of militarization.
