Striving for dominance in the backyard. What does the USA want in Latin America?

In January of this year, the US military kidnapped Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. Since then, his successor Delcy Rodríguez has subordinated herself politically and economically to US interests. But it's not just about Venezuela and its raw materials. Donald Trump also threatens other countries in the region, interferes in election campaigns and relies on close cooperation with governments that are sympathetic to him. As an empire with dwindling hegemony, the USA wants to push the entire region back into the classic backyard role and push out external powers like China. In the short term this seems to be working. But this dominance policy will inevitably generate resistance.
