A group of far-right activists decided the most interesting thing they could do with their afternoon today (October 31st) was stand around outside Freedom Bookshop, shouting overwrought gibberish.
While such low-effort cosplayers are of course free to embarrass themselves on public streets, the attempted intimidation and harassment of both people in the shop and passers by – including one person who they physically attacked – was shameful behaviour.
Thanks to the quick thinking of one of our volunteers, the shop was quickly locked, so no damage was done in the building itself.
Our thanks go to them and everyone who, as soon as the warning went out about a far-right presence, dropped everything to head down in solidarity.
We expect no better from the “protect our communities” mob, whose “protection” amounts to little more than schoolyard bullying.
We’re happy to have been contacted by so many people offering their support and wanting to help, the general view is we’re okay for now but a gathering may well be useful later – watch this space.
As they say in Italy, sempre antifascisti.
