As many have probably figured out based on the radio silence, Makamik’s journey has ended. Our collective, previously so full of action, has now dissolved and its members have passed on to new horizons in their separate ways. We give one final thank you to our visitors, artists, workshoppers, volunteers, supporters, comrades, presenters, accomplices, dear friends.

Makamik’s sound system moves to a new loaning project, so if you need a sound system for your noncommercial event real cheap (~bottlemoney etc) contact pks_pa[circle-a]riseup[dot]net 🖤 Demonstrations etc dont pay even that!

Our drums survived the fire but are now in need of a new home. Contact us asap if you know of a comradely loving place for them.

We leave our info channels archived in cyberspace in the hopes of our lived history inspiring others to find their own way of struggling and seeking shared joy among a heating planet and cooling attitudes.

Makamik was an anarchist collective organizing events till 2025 in Helsinki.

Originally squatted in 2013 and since legalized Squat Makamik was an anarchist and antiauthoritarian social center and space for free art in Kumpula neighborhood of Helsinki, based on anticapitalism and safer space principles. You can read about the first phase of Makamik (2013~2019) on the archivedold blog. In 2019-2020 there came a lot of new people and energy into the collective and we can say that a new phase began then.

The house was destroyed in a fire in suspicious circumstances after a long harassement campaign by the far-right in late winter 2023 but the collective that was running the house continued organizing for almost three years after that, squatting spaces, organizing communal events and fighting for a more humane world. Makamik organized many kinds of events such as peoples kitchens, gigs, workshops, cross-disciplinary art, parties, movie nights and exhibitions.
